Purnea : Untold Love story of a British collector


The first collector of Purnea district, Ducarel came here in 1770. For the last three years there was a severe famine due to drought. More than half of the population was perished . Gradually he controlled the situation. 
        One day he noticed that some people were trying to forcefully burn the woman by sitting her on the dead husband's funeral pyre.



In those days, the practice of sati was common among the upper class. But it was inhuman and confusing for a British citizen, he stopped it but the society boycotted the woman. Ducarel married the woman, after returning from the East India Company job, he took her to England and she could not return there again . 
             This fact was discovered by historian Dr. Rameshwar Prasad with the help of Subodh Kumar singh.



When the Bihar government entrusted him with the responsibility of exploring the establishment day of Purnea district. 
     14th February the date on which ducarel came to Purnea was fixed as the establishment day of Purnea district. Subodh Kumar Singh has written a  wonderful story on this true event.

After reading this, Dr.  Lakshmikant Singh has written a novel.

 
Many journalists have written hundreds of articles linking the establishment date of Ducarel and Purana district with Valentin Day.
