Vanavar: A rare temple of Gupta period in Bihar

Vanwar is famous for the oldest man-made caves, which were built in the Mauryan period. It is a wonderful piece of Mauryan art. But on the top of this mountain of the Vanavar mountain range is a Shiva-temple known as the temple of Siddhanath Baba.
The Vastu-art , and architecture of the temple is a testimony to its Gupta period.
Here the evidence of establishment of votive Shivling is found.
It is a rare tradition of ancient India.

This tradition is not seen anywhere other than Vanavar in Bihar.
There are hundreds of Shivling carved on the granite edges surrounding the temple.
Many ancient idols are scattered in and around the temple complex,
most of them have fallen prey to iconoclast.
There is a four feet high rare statue of Varaha found here.
Numerous sculptures have been carved on the path of the temple and surrounding rocks.
Among these, statues of
Mahishmardini, Uma-Maheshwar, Varaha, Dasha-Avatar and Ganesha are prominent.
West of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is the sabha-mandapa. The roof is flat, not the amount.
All these are examples of Gupta / post Gupta temple architecture.
Despite all these, it has not been declared protected by the Archaeological Survey of India or any authority till now.
People who are fond of history, religion, culture and art should visit this area. It is 90 kilometers from Patna, the temple is situated at an altitude of 1000 feet in jehanabad district.
it has not yet been documented as a gupta period temple in any official or historical document.
